Emma
Emma had been coming to one of our social groups for a couple of years. She was passionate about rugby, and was pretty darned good at it and played at county level. But her mum was keen for her to get “a real job”. Emma desperately wanted to go to university like her friends did. But she found the whole researching and application process to put her off. We worked with Emma to decide if she was ready to live away from home, or would be better staying close. In the end we compromised – she was to stay in halls of residence but close enough that she could get home in less than an hour if she had a panic. We looked at all the options, what opportunities the different places gave her to follow her passion and we helped get references and the support of her old teachers. In a little over 15 months, Emma will graduate and we’re hoping that we can celebrate with her. She deserves it.
